I'll just be honest. This week was HARD.
Medi-Weightloss is not really meant for vegetarians. When I went in on Wednesday for my mid-week supplemental injections, they gave me a menu (in draft - not finalized yet) for vegetarians. It has some good ideas, but it also has a lot of products that I can't eat. Like eggs. I tried that on the first day and I just can't do it again. It also includes Boca products, but the problem with those is that they look and taste too much like meat for me and I can't get past it. I'm able to have some Morningstar Farms products which has worked out pretty well. I did eat real chicken though, for probably the first five days. I might do that more but if I can avoid it, I'm gonna!
It's been rough a couple of times. On Sunday night last week, day two for me, I went to the movies with some girls from church and then to Cafe TuTu Tango for dinner. I brought my shake to drink during the movie and then I ate my chicken and cottage cheese at the table at Tango. It was easier than I'd expected, but it was a little hard when the dessert was brought out. On Thursday, I went to the lunchroom to microwave my veggie patty and saw that the catered lunch that day was something involving fruit, tortilla chips, rice and cookies. I had to get outta there quick.
This Sunday we're going to a Halloween party - and these parties always involve GREAT food and ever-flowing drinks. I don't know how on earth I'm going to get through the night. Someone start praying. Right. Now.
I've met with the trainer, James, twice so far. My arms and upper body were really sore after the first session. After the second session, it wasn't so bad. My legs haven't really been sore because I've made sure to stretch them out really well afterward. It's a hard workout though, I'll say that. We go through each of the machines (not free weights) and I do one set on each, as many reps as I can do until the point of muscle failure. Apparently working your muscles this way is productive enough so that you only have to do it twice a week. Works for me. James is a great trainer, very motivational and very knowledgeable. But I do have to be honest - I'm not fond of the whole muscle failure thing, and so I don't exactly look forward to these sessions.
I also walked four days this week! I'm eating my lunch at my desk (as inconspicuously as possible) and then using my full 30 minute lunch break to walk on the treadmill at the Fitness Center where I work (I get it for free, so why not, right?). On the first few days, one of the girls in the clinic joined me. By Thursday, there were three others walking with me at lunch. Yay!
Speaking of others joining me, when my friend April heard about the whole low-carb thing, she decided that she was going to do it right along with me. She's done amazingly well, stuck with it all week in the midst of some trials and she has had a significant weight loss to show for it! Go April! YOU are awesome!
There were three contest winners - Janice, Melissa and me. Janice had her weekly Medi visit on Wednesday and learned that she lost 5.9 lbs! In the first week! This week was really rough for her but she did great.
Melissa had her weekly Medi visit on Monday (I think), which was really only day five for her rather than a full week because she had some scheduling conflicts. So by day five, she had lost 6 lbs - AND 1 1/2 inches from her waist!!! So proud of her. That's amazing to me.
For those of you that know me at all, I tend to be fairly competitive. Which is why I don't play video games. I stink at them so rather than get angry because I'm losing, I choose not to play. It works for me, don't knock it.
In this case, however, I don't have the choice of "not playing." I do have the choice of not looking at it as a competition, but that's just my nature. I can't help it.
Which means...I was slightly disappointed that I didn't lose as much as the other girls. BUT - at least I did lose some weight which is something that I haven't been able to do for a very, very long time!
AND...for my Medi Week One Results...
I lost 4.1 lbs and 1/2 an inch from my waist!
Not bad - but that means I'm going to work harder this week. If I can lose that same amount every week, I will be able to reach my goal weight in 12 weeks.
And THAT would be awesome!
I'm really proud of you!!!!
ReplyDeleteReally, really...
You can do it!!!!
Xoxo.
It's me on my phone from my couch!

Yay! Those are awesome results in one week.
ReplyDeleteYou should be very proud of yourself - every step in the right direction, no matter how small is such an accomplishment and 4.1 lbs. is huge. You have lots of love and support behind you - you can do this!!!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Mom H.
OhEmGeeeeeeee! I knew you would do an amazing job!! We both lost the same, but I have a lot more to lose than you, so that proves you worked harder than I did. :)See? You win!! :) I am not stopping at week one, I am forging ahead.
